911 Training Certification Board FAQ
- Can you provide some more information about the expected logistics for the work of the committee (meeting times, meeting locations, the body of work, etc.,)?
- The Board members, once seated, will develop their own bylaws that will govern the board. Those bylaws may include the preference for meetings (frequency, online or in-person, length.) The 911 AC workgroup is developing some observations related to this topic that will be shared with the board. Those observations include a preference for the online meetings due to the statewide coverage of the possible board members. We also believe the board will have a heavy workload during the first 6 months to a year as the entire process must be built and codified. After that, the work may drop off to just a few meetings or work sessions per year.
- The body of work for the board comes from the bill itself “create a certification and training program for public safety telecommunicators throughout the state.” The bill continues with specific duties of the board. Interested parties are encouraged to thoroughly read and understand the bill.
- Once a person is on the board if they retire, would they be required to resign from the board as well?
- The length of service on the board and any requirements to remain on the board would be determined by the organization appointing the position. In the case of the Directors and Telecommunicators, the 911 Advisory Committee (AC) is responsible for appointing those positions. The 911 AC has not yet determined the guidelines for these appointments. We will seek for it to adopt their guidelines during their next meeting (May 19, 2022).
- How long of a commitment to be part of the board?

- How much monthly time is anticipated to be involved on the board?
- The first year or so will probably be the most intensive as the full processes have to be established. Once that lift is done the board may end up scheduling meetings or work sessions a few times a year.
- Would there be required travel?
- As noted above, the workgroup believes there will be opportunities for mostly virtual meetings. Travel expenses, should they be necessary may be covered by the State 911 Office. That question has been asked of the State Office, we await a response.
- I work at a secondary PSAP, am I eligible to apply?
- While the desired qualifications list says, “currently employed at a Primary PSAP,” working at a Secondary PSAP does not automatically disqualify you or make you ineligible.
